5 Reasons to Change Your Mind about J.Crew
If you’re none-the-wiser to “the new Crew” I get it. For years I’ve been walking into J. Crew, looking at price tags and leaving the store empty handed. Then, about 6 months ago, I started popping into J.Crew again and was shocked to find more affordable prices. The thought “Am I getting richer or is J.Crew getting cheaper?” crossed my mind. Spoiler alert: I’m not richer.
SO, what is it with J.Crew? I dug a little deeper to find out J.Crew has been making MAJOR brand changes that all of us non-fashionistas can appreciate following a major change in leadership. Here’s the scoop on what I know:
They’re now offering a wider variety of sizes without a plus size category. The brand told Yahoo earlier this year they don’t want to “segregate” plus sizing and I’m HERE FOR IT. More on that interview here.
They’re adding better price points and testing the waters with Amazon. You can now get their J. Crew Mercantile line (Mercantile in J.Crew speak = AFFORDABLE) on Amazon. PRIME ME BABY. Check out what they have on Amazon HERE. I’ve been finding great dresses for work under $100.
You’ll see more diversity in their models. They’re now photographing models in various sizes and incorporating people who aren’t models at all. Some of the faces on the front page of their website right now are their own employees AND groups from organizations making the world a better place. Why is this important? I can finally see what that cute work dress looks like on someone with hips and a butt. AMEN. I historically haven’t bought on J.Crew’s website for this reason.
They’re adding A TON of clothing options for us non-prepsters… and I freaking love it. They’re not losing their trademark style but instead building on it and expanding outside of their comfort zone. Their new creative director has a history with Anthropologie and West Elm, and there is online chatter that they may be taking notes from their successful sister brand, Madewell.
J.Crew may not be claiming to be #goodvibetribe outright but they’re definitely giving me all the good vibes right now. They launched the new campaign on their website on Monday, September 10, which gives us all a better idea of what their new vision looks like. It looks inclusive, it looks kind and it FINALLY looks like a fun brand we all want to be a part of. (There’s also a kitten riding a turtle in the promo video on the website, just sayin’)
