The Skin and Hair Legend I'm Totally Sold On
One of my girlfriends got me a silk pillowcase for Christmas. She explained to me that it was one of her favorite skin and hair care secrets and let me tell you, she looks amazing. I'm buying whatever she's selling. Unbeknownst to me, the silk pillowcase is a beauty legend that's been around for decades and is now making a comeback.
So what exactly can silk do for your hair? Cotton absorbs moisture and absorbs the moisture in your hair, which can leave it frizzy and prone to breakage (hello split ends). When we spend the night tossing and turning, cotton can hold on to our hair at the root, which is what causes that lovely bedhead. Silk is so smooth that it's less prone to catch hair and form nasty tangles.
And your skin? Silk is locking that moisture in too and will help your skin stay moisturized. No more waking up with a crease on your face either. True story: sleep creases can form permanent wrinkles. No thanks! Silk is also a natural fabric that's hypoallergenic. Sensitive skin ladies, rejoice!
Dermatologists swear by silk pillowcases and hair stylists will tell you it's a key factor in helping to keep that beautiful blowout intact. Will I look 20 years younger after sleeping on this pillowcase for a few years? Who knows, but I'm sold and never sleeping without a silk pillowcase again.
There are a lot of silk pillowcases on the market at this point. Slip Silk is my pillowcase of choice and has gotten rave reviews from Kourtney Kardashian and her hair stylist and well, if it's good enough for a Kardashian, it's good enough for me.
